How often should you practice yoga?

Do you do yoga everyday Dani?

One of the most asked questions I get is how often do I practice yoga and how often should you. I meditate daily and practice asana about 3-4 times a week, varying from 10-60 minutes.

Ideally, it’s recommended to practice yoga consistently and regularly to experience its benefits, whether that’s once, twice or more. Here are some general guidelines to consider:

  1. Start with a realistic goal: Begin by setting a realistic goal for yourself, such as practicing yoga two to three times per week. This allows you to establish a routine without overwhelming yourself. Some 10 min classes, some 45-60 min classes.
  2. Gradually increase frequency: As you become more comfortable and familiar with your practice, you can gradually increase the frequency. Aim to practice a few times per week or even daily but only if it aligns with your schedule and goals.
  3. Find a balance: It’s important to find a balance that works for you. Listen to your body and give yourself enough rest and recovery time. Overdoing it or pushing yourself too hard can lead to burnout or injuries. Incorporate restorative or gentle yoga sessions into your routine to balance out more intense or vigorous practices.
  4. Quality over quantity: Rather than focusing solely on the frequency, prioritize the quality of your practice. It’s better to have shorter, focused sessions where you are fully present and engaged rather than longer sessions where you are distracted or rushing through the practice.
  5. Adapt to your schedule: Flexibility is key when it comes to establishing a consistent practice. If you have a busy schedule, consider shorter sessions or break your practice into smaller segments throughout the day. Even a 15-minute session can be beneficial.

Remember that yoga is a personal journey, and everyone’s needs and capabilities vary. It’s essential to honour your body’s limitations and listen to its signals. The most important aspect is to cultivate a regular practice that brings you joy, nourishes your body and mind, and supports your overall well-being.
